The annual Small Business Saturday celebrates small businesses by encouraging folks to #shopsmall and help their communities stay strong. Started in 2010, it occurs on the Saturday after Thanksgiving to encourage holiday shoppers to visit small businesses.
Since the start of Smart Business Saturday, customers spent an estimated $85 billion over eight days according to American Express. Remember, it’s a one-day event. Therefore, in its first years, it has brought impressive billions of dollars to small and independent retailers and restaurants.
#shopsmall really works and has made a positive impact on communities according to 90 percent of consumer surveyed in the pre-2017 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey. American Express and the National Federation of Independent Businesses commissioned this survey.
