If you’ve been to Kerbey Lane Café in Austin and wished there was one closer, then your wish has been granted. We’re giving some #LocalLove to Kerbey Lane Café (221 E Sessom Dr., San Marcos, TX 78666) with its new location in San Marcos.
About the New San Marcos Location
You could call this the little café that could. It opened its doors in November after two years of planning and delays. The building has a little bit of history. In the early 1800s, it was the San Marcos Mill Tract, which is the land where the first dam on the San Marcos River was built.
Because of its rich history, the restaurant has a rustic atmosphere. The location features a pet-friendly patio and a private dining room. The restaurant is located near the Square and across from the Texas State’s campus stadium, it hopes to be a hang-out type of place and one that students and faculty will use for all types of gatherings.
Background on Kerbey Lane Café
The first location in Austin opened its doors in 1980 with the goal of serving made-from-scratch comfort food. The original location is in a small 1930s bungalow in Central Austin on Kerbey Lane. The restaurant also has a cozy apartment for its founders to live in. That location is an iconic Austin landmark and the family-owned restaurant is still going strong.
The restaurant continues to serve made-from-scratch comfort food with locally sourced ingredients. They list their local partners and farms on their website.
Give this restaurant some love! Kerbey Lane Café San Marcos is open Sunday through Thursday from 7 AM to midnight and Friday-Saturday from 7 AM to 2 AM. They hope to be open 24/7. Visit the Kerbey Lane Café Facebook page for the latest.
