If you’re looking for river fun, all you need to do is go to 2024 North Old Bastrop Highway, check in with Texas State Tubes, hop on the river, float downstream and shuttle back up to your vehicle using their buses. It’s a great way to spend a hot summer day with the whole family.
San Marcos Discovery Center
Located in William and Eleanor Crook Park, the San Marcos Discovery Center has a variety of indoor animal exhibits and an outdoor wildscape of native plants and animals found in the San Marcos area. Their wildscape features two ponds, themed gardens and is also an outdoor learning center for all ages.
Wonder World Park
Wonder World Park is a one-of-a-kind theme park known as the 1st show cave in Texas. Visitors can enjoy touring the Balcones Fault Line Cave and the many other attractions for family fun and entertainment.
San Marcos National Fish Hatchery and Technology Center
The hatchery began as the first warmwater hatchery west of the Mississippi River. The original San Marcos hatchery (built in 1897) is now operated by Southwest Texas State University, and they welcome anyone interested to tour their facility. It’s a great way to learn and see firsthand the biological systems that make San Marcos special.
San Marcos Farmers Market
High quality food is so important for living a happy, healthy life. We’re lucky that San Marcos has a thriving farmers market during the summer months. You can find some of the best produce in Texas here.
The farmers market in San Marcos is located at Hays County Historic Courthouse, 111 East San Antonio Street. The market provides an outlet for Central Texas farmers to market their crops and provide a source of fresh, homegrown and homemade products. The market opens June 4, 2022 from 9AM to 1PM and is open every Saturday this summer.
Live Music This Summer
Summer In The Park music series brings great bands to San Marcos every week. Different bands in diverse genres play every Thursday night starting in June at Plaza Park. Concerts continue until the second week of August. Feel free to bring your lawn chair or blanket, and if you’d like, an ice chest of your favorite beverages. Just remember: no glass or Styrofoam containers/coolers.
If you’re into classical music, you can also catch the week-long Texas State International Piano Festival. It features classical concerts by guest artists and rising stars from all over the world. The Piano Festival takes place June 4 -11, 2022 at the Performing Arts Center on the Texas State University campus.
